A workshop to highlight the factors influencing the development of the food industry so that regulatory planning decisions are cognizant of the pressures on industry eg market dynamics, technology, infrastructure and better inform land use planning.
Background
The FAB WG meeting held on 9 November 2017 identified regulatory planning as a significant issue with comments as follows:
- Consultation approaches by State and local government authorities – how and for whom
- Planning reform – simplify the process and build in consistency (building buffers and fire regulations cited) and flexibility (focus on business objectives and not just the rules)
- Should acknowledge regional differences eg Adelaide Plains cf Adelaide Hills (and Council differences)
- Consider case studies in planning to identify systemic improvements
- Should acknowledge the realities of businesses in an increasingly globally competitive environment – new market and technology dynamics. Could extend to flexibility in mixed use developments
Target audience
- Council regulatory staff (strategic and statutory planners, health, building, engineers)
- State Government – EPA, DPTI (strategic and regulatory planners), SA Water, Bio-security, FoodSA
When: April – date and venue to be advised
